DESCRIPTION:February 19 – June 13\, 2026 \nPlease note: DOMA will be closed February 28 – March 9 for Ball State’s Spring Break. \nEvents related to this exhibition include:\nFebruary 23: Exhibition Overview Tour for educators at 4:00 p.m.\nMarch 11: Public Artist Talk by Nora Krug at 6:00 p.m. (AT SURSA HALL) \n“Images have political power\, and they can change the way we think. Illustrating is also an act of witnessing: images compel us to notice and investigate\, and at their best\, they shed light on and at the same time critically confront the subjects they engage with.”\n—Nora Krug \nAward-winning artist Nora Krug’s powerful graphic memoir\, Belonging: A German Reckons With History and Home\, and her more recent book publication\, an illustrated edition of Yale historian Timothy Snyder’s On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century\, are the focus of an exhibition at the David Owsley Museum of Art. Each book takes inspiration from the artist’s personal experiences as well as the events of history through engagement with deep topical research\, museum artifacts and flea market finds\, vintage photography\, oral histories\, and personal conversations\, with the goal of trying to understand\, reckon with\, and depict the past in order to take something revelatory and useful away from it. \nThe exhibition was organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge\, MA\, and curated by Stephanie Haboush Plunkett\, Chief Curator.

DESCRIPTION:For their spring performance\, Ball State’s Opera Theatre program will present The Marriage of Figaro. \nThe Marriage of Figaro continues the plot of The Barber of Seville (which centers around Count Almaviva’s pursuit of Rosina) several years later\, and recounts a single “day of madness” (la folle journée) in the palace of Count Almaviva. Rosina is now the countess. Dr. Bartolo is seeking revenge against Figaro for thwarting his plans to marry Rosina himself\, and Count Almaviva has degenerated from the romantic youth of Barber\, into a scheming\, bullying\, skirt-chasing baritone. Having gratefully given Figaro a job as head of his servant-staff\, he is now persistently trying to exercise his feudal right to bed a servant girl on her wedding night (which he had prior relinquished in his courtship with the Countess) – with Figaro’s bride-to-be\, Susanna\, who is the countess’s maid. He keeps finding excuses to delay the civil part of the wedding of his two servants\, which is arranged for this very day. Figaro\, Susanna\, and the countess conspire to embarrass the count and expose his scheming. He retaliates by trying to compel Figaro legally to marry a woman old enough to be his mother\, but it turns out at the last minute that she really is his mother. Through the clever manipulations of Susanna and the countess and several hijinks along the way\, Figaro and Susanna are finally able to marry. \nOther Performances\nThis is the first of two performances. DESCRIPTION:The Faculty Artist Series features School of Music faculty sharing their talent and passion for music with the campus and community. This concert is free and open to the public. \nThis recital will also be offered as a livestream – visit the Concert Livestream Page to watch live. Streaming begins approximately 15 minutes prior to scheduled concert start time. Parking is available in the McKinley Parking Garage (entrance on Ashland Avenue) located immediately south of Sursa Hall. Metered parking is available on the first floor of the garage until 7 p.m. at which time parking is free. \nCritically acclaimed for her virtuosity and versatility\, oboist Lisa Kozenko performs internationally as a soloist\, chamber artist and orchestral musician. Ms. Kozenko has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Nova Filarmonia of Portugal\, the National Orchestra of New York\, the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico\, the Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra and the Greenwich Village Orchestra. Concert engagements include performances at the Phillips Collection in Washington D.C.\, the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago\, the Frick Collection in Pittsburgh and the Trinity Noonday Series\, Great Music in the Chapel Series\, and Merkin Concert Hall in New York City. \nCatherine Kautsky\, Chair of Keyboard at Lawrence University in Appleton\, WI\, has been lauded by the New York Times as “a pianist who can play Mozart and Schubert as though their sentiments and habits of speech coincided exactly with hers … The music spoke directly to the listener\, with neither obfuscation nor pretense.” She was the 2016 winner of the Lawrence Excellence in Teaching Award\, the 2013 winner of the university’s Faculty Convocation Award\, and in 2017 she was honored with the George and Marjorie Olsen Chandler Chair in Music.

Informed by a cumulative century of devoted study\, they answer to this with emphatic (and euphoric) sonic interpretations that effectively enrich the collective language of jazz itself.
